Hi I work as a facilities manager i am looking for any suggestions as to how we can help save the environment.


We already do the norm switch off p.c's, recycle, currently installing motion sensored lights, we grow herbs in our garden which we use in our catering dept, we have a wormery for our waste and birdboxes etc any other sensible suggestions very welcome ThanksHelp Please, Ways my company can be mor environmentally friendly?

Promote carpooling (use the HR department to coordinate employees) by giving primo parking places to the carpoolers; promote mass transit by making cut-rate bus passes available; step down the dress code to business casual so you can back off on the A/C and allow employees to skip neckties, suit coats, etc. (as appropriate); in the winter dial down a couple of degrees and promote wearing warmer clothes to work.





Buy CFL light bulbs in bulk and sell them to employees at deep discounts.

Sounds like you are making a pretty good effort so far.

Are you familiar with purchasing Green Credits and Carbon Offsets? Many companies and consumers are beginning to purchase them, this is especially great for corporations since there energy and natural resource use is so much higher than the average consumer. (also gives a pretty fair tax break) What it is - calculate your environmental ';footprint'; and purchase green credits to offset the damage caused by your energy use or garbage contribution. For instance, calculate the amount of carbon monoxide let into the air by your use of electricity. With the green credits purchased, the money is used to plant trees, build solar energy sources, power wind-mills, and many other things. I have attached a website with information on green credits. If you do some research you will find many offset options. You must find the offset that best suits you. I am a bit of a tree-hugger so I prefer offsets to plant trees.
