Well why don't we use algae to make Bio Fuel and we don't have to worry about raising the price of corn for food. I think that might solve the problem with rising food prices, we can use something that doesn't affect the current food market. Algae can make about 10,000 gallons of oil an acre and can be used to make Bio diesel. Now we could have a a fuel source separate from our food source,and almost all diesel engines can run on it with little modification.What's mor important to you...lower fuel prices through bio fuels (corn) or lower food prices (corn)?
Biofuels have been a disaster. They are costing taxpayers $billions through government subsidies, and accelerating the growth of greenhouse gases. While there are more efficient crops that could be used for biofuels, the facts we're seeing now are:
1. Clearcutting of rainforests to plant more crops for fuel;
2. Food riots due to huge increases in the cost of staple foods in the developing world;
3. The carbon footprint to create a pound of biofuel amounts to more than a pound of greenhouse gases.
We may be on the verge of mass starvation.
BTW, biofuels were never meant to lower the price of fuel.What's mor important to you...lower fuel prices through bio fuels (corn) or lower food prices (corn)?
Definantly lower food prices. Ethanol is a completely rediculous alternative fuel source because farmers would have a larger market to sell to if they grew corn. Therefore, if all of the farmers converted their current food crops to corn, our nation would have a major food crisis.
Why use corn? There are many plants that could be used
for bio-fuel. Lumber waste could make ';wood alcohol';
(The Germans did it in WWII) and Otto Diesel used peanut
oil for his invention (diesel engine). I've wondered if
the hemp plant could be used for bio-fuel. It is the oils and
resins that make One high when it is smoked. Or maybe
tobacco. both grow well in desert lands (which are growing
worldwide). Perhaps that is how we will make the deserts
bloom!!!
Lower food prices, you can produce a better alliterative fuel from something other then corn.
Oil prices will be what they will be
We should not sacrifice peoples food for our belief of lower fuel costs.
2 completely separate questions since the Corn grown for fuel is not the same corn grown for food.
BTW, lower the cost of fuel and all commodity prices including food will go down.
Since requiring ethanol in fuel is actually one of the factors in RAISING the price of gasoline, I will go with lower food prices.
Fuel since higher fuel prices will cause food prices to rise in general as well as all goods delivered by truck will increase in cost.
j
Food any time ,
we have to look for alternative transport and energy
the future is coming
The hype of Global Warming is what is driving the gasoline prices.
I vote for both. (algae) (switchgrass) (cellulose to ethanol)
Bio fuels are a STUPID political trick.
fuel prices!!! totally
