I will form a random 5 digit number using only the integers 1 through 7 and allowing no integer to be used more than once in any 5 digit number. Find the probability that one of the 5 digit number's first two spaces has a 1 in it.I will form a random 5 digit number using only the integers 1 through 7 and allowing no integer to be used mor
The number of possible combinations in this scenario is 7*6*5*4*3. The number of possible combinations for 1XXXX is 6*5*4*3. It's the same for X1XXX. Therefore, the total probability that there is a 1 in either place is 2*6*5*4*3/(7*6*5*4*3) = 2/7.
